India’s Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has opened an office in the southern city of Chennai, and hired GV Anand Bhushan, the former general counsel of Cognizant Technology Solutions, to head it.

Bhushan previously headed his own firm Bhushan & Rajaram for four years before joining Cognizant Technology Solutions as general counsel responsible for legal, compliance and government affairs. In that role he managed 70 lawyers across multiple verticals in APAC and North America.

Shardul Amarchand recently promoted as many as 17 lawyers to its partnership nationally. With the launch of the Chennai branch, it currently has seven offices across India. In April, it opened an office in Bangalore.
