SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan emerged as the biggest winner at the first-ever ALB Philippine Law Awards, securing victory in various categories including Philippine Law Firm of the Year, the top law firm award of the event.
Held at Fairmont Makati on October 14, ALB’s inaugural tribute to legal excellence in the jurisdiction presented 20 awards. Apart from picking up the Arbitration Law Firm of the Year and Banking and Financial Services Law Firm of the Year gongs, SyCip was lauded as well for its role in transactions chosen as the Debt Market Deal of the Year and Project Finance Deal of the Year.
Meanwhile, women reigned supreme in the individual categories, claiming three out of the four categories. Valerie Feria Amante of Jollibee Foods Corp. was In-House Lawyer of the Year, Pearl T. Liu of Quisumbing Torres – Baker & McKenzie’s associate firm in the Philippines – was Woman Lawyer of the Year, and Regina Jacinto-Barrientos of Puyat Jacinto & Santos was Managing Partner of the Year. The Young Lawyer of the Year gong, however, went to Michael Barney Almazar of Gulf Law.
Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & de los Angeles and Cruz Marcelo & Tenefrancia took home two awards each, sharing honours for their participation in the M&A Deal of the Year as well as being named as the Philippine Deal Firm of the Year and Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year, respectively. London-headquartered Allen & Overy was recongised as the International Deal Firm of the Year.
