Thomson Reuters has launched the 2016 edition of the Singapore White Book for the benefit of legal professionals. As Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon notes in the Foreword, the book is an “authoritative text with currency amongst both lawyers and judges.”
The 2016 edition comes as Singapore gains renown as a regional hub for legal work, with a judicial system known for its trustworthiness and efficiency. The city-state’s civil procedure also continues to evolve at a rapid pace, as evidenced by the pro-activeness of The Rules of Court Working Party, which releases revisions every year to simplify, modernise and innovate. In addition, there is new case law, and the Singapore International Commercial Court was introduced in 2015.
The book is available in the print format as well as the Thomson Reuters ProView (ebook) version, which is supported by two e-supplements in ProView. ProView gives users mobile access even without internet connectivity and allows them to highlight, bookmark or makes notes on the text.
According to Foo Chee Hock, the book’s editor-in-chief and the Supreme Court of Singapore’s Judicial Commissioner, “one central aim is to make use of information technology to ensure that this resource in the hands of judges and practitioners is as current and relevant as possible.”
