Missisippi, U.S.-headquartered law firm Butler Snow has planted its flag in Asia after opening an office in Singapore and also a virtual office in Hong Kong.
The Singapore office, headed by partner Kurt Rademacher, will primarily offer U.S. tax and estate planning advice to ultra-high net worth families and family-controlled businesses. The firm says it has clients in markets like Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines.
Butler Snow says it sees growth opportunities in the region arising from the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act and the Common Reporting Standard.
Rademacher, who has experience in international wealth transfer planning, represents ultra-high net worth families and family-controlled businesses in multiple countries in the areas of U.S. federal income, gift and estate tax issues.
“We selected Singapore because it is a leading financial hub, has a business-friendly environment and offers a strong legal framework,” he said in a statement. “Its position as a convenient gateway to the rest of Asia, where many Butler Snow clients are located, makes it extremely attractive.”
Butler Snow has more than 300 practicing lawyers and 18 offices in the U.S. and London.
