White & Case is opening an office in Cairo in association with new Egyptian law firm MHR & Partners. This is the firm’s second office in Africa, to go with Johannesburg in South Africa.

Partner Philip Stopford will lead the new office, dividing his time between London and Cairo. MHR partners Tarek Mohanna and Sherief Rashed, formerly partners with White & Case in London and Abu Dhabi, respectively, will relocate to Cairo. The other partners of MHR are Said Hanafi, formerly general counsel at Orascom Development Holdings, and Walid El Daly, who joins from Zaki Hashem & Partners. 

Other law firms in Egypt include Baker & McKenzie, which operates as Helmy, Hamza & Partners, Dentons, and DLA Piper.
