The 20th annual ALB Hong Kong Law Awards, a virtual event held on Sept. 10, celebrated the innovation and excellence of the finest lawyers, firms, and in-house teams in the region.

Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Clyde & Co, Mayer Brown, Deacons, Baker McKenzie, Haldanes, and Kirkland & Ellis won two awards apiece.

Deacons, which was named the Hong Kong Law Firm of the year, also won the Investment Funds Law Firm of the Year, while Mayer Brown was awarded Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year and Real Estate Law Firm of the Year.

Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis bagged the Deal Firm of the Year and Restructuring and Insolvency Law Firm of the Year awards.

The Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year award went to Matthew Hodgson from Allen & Overy, which also snapped up the Corporate Citizenship Law Firm of the Year award.

Clyde & Co won Insurance Law Firm of the Year and Maritime Law Firm of the Year, while Clifford Chance was named Aviation Law Firm of the Year and Innovative Technologies Law Firm of the Year.

Baker McKenzie was awarded Labour and Employment Law Firm of the Year and Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law Firm of the Year; and Haldanes was named Criminal Litigation Law Firm of the Year and Matrimonial and Family Law Firm of the Year.

Meanwhile, the Dispute Resolution Boutique Law Firm of the Year title went to CMS while Harneys claimed the Offshore Law Firm of the Year award, and ELLALAN was named Rising Law Firm of the Year.

In the individual categories, Shearman & Sterling’s Lorna Xin Chen was the winner of Managing Partner of the Year, Kay Ian Ng of Sullivan & Cromwell was named Dealmaker of the Year, and Melody Chan of White & Case received the award for Woman Lawyer of the Year (Law Firm).

In the in-house categories, AXA Hong Kong was the biggest winner of the night with three awards: In-House Lawyer of the Year (for Julie Prickett), Haldanes Award MNC In-House Team of the Year and Hong Kong In-House Team of the Year.

Meanwhile, Cosco Shipping Ports’ Michelle Hung was named Woman Lawyer of the Year (In-House), while Edward Tung of ORI Capital was awarded Young Lawyer of the Year (In-House).
