Stamford Law has welcomed three prominent lawyers, including a former co-chair of the DLA Piper’s global arbitration group, as it seeks to position itself as a serious regional player.

The new hires are Justyn Jagger, who joined from DLA Piper, Timothy Cooke and Wong Kee Fong. Cooke, also a dispute resolution specialist, was most recently with Clyde & Co, while banking and finance expert Wong joined from an international bank, where she held an in-house role.

Jagger is well regarded in the fields of insurance, re-insurance, and international arbitration. At DLA Piper, Jagger was both co-chair of the global arbitration group and head of dispute resolution for Southeast Asia, apart from being a leading partner in the firm’s insurance and reinsurance group.

Cooke, who has practised in London, the Cayman Islands, and the British Virgin Islands, was a legal director in Clyde & Co’s dispute resolution group. With a focus on international commercial arbitration, he is also an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Prior to her stint at the bank, Wong had worked in the foreign and Singapore offices of an international firm, specialising in banking and finance.

“These moves are bucking the trend of foreign practices increasing their presence in Singapore and luring talent away from leading Singapore firms,” said Lee Suet-Fern, senior partner at Stamford Law, in a statement. “With Justyn, Timothy and Kee Fong joining our firm, we are continuing to increase our bench strength and expertise - building the strongest possible team - whilst taking advantage of the region’s continued development as a centre for excellent legal services.”
