Joy Lam, a former Sidley Austin Hong Kong partner specialising in blockchain and virtual assets, has joined Baker McKenzie as a registered foreign lawyer (partner equivalent).

Lam, who was at Sidley for nearly a decade, is a founding committee member of the Asia Security Token Alliance. She advises on blockchain technology, tokens, and virtual asset exchanges.

Last year, Lam helped Huobi Asset Management receive approval from Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission to manage a virtual asset fund, the first such fund that permits subscriptions and redemptions to be effected in cryptocurrency. She has also advised on Asia's first open-ended tokenised fund, as well as Asia’s first close-ended tokenized fund.

Lam, who began her career at Australian firm Allens in 2006, also worked at Allen & Overy.
