Chicago-headquartered McDermott Will & Emery has hired veteran U.S. securities lawyer Siddhartha Sivaramakrishnan as a partner in its recently opened office in Singapore from Herbert Smith Freehills.

Sivaramakrishnan is McDermott’s third lateral hire in Singapore so far. With a focus on investment banking, international equity and debt capital markets transactions and M&A, he was at Herbert Smith Freehills for more than a decade, becoming a partner in 2013.

After closing its Seoul office and severing ties with Shanghai-based Yuanda China Law last year, McDermott lacked a physical Asia presence, but in 2021, it received a license to operate in Singapore.

Since then, it has poached proven talent, hiring Ignatius Hwang and Merrick White from Squire Patton Boggs and King & Spalding, respectively.
