Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman has appointed intellectual property litigators Chris Kao and David Tsai as partners in its San Francisco office from Vinson & Elkins. Kao and Tsai will assist in opening Pillsbury’s Taipei office later this year.

The new office is expected to serve firm’s IP, Technology and Life Sciences sector clients. Kao and Tsai are among the fewer than 50 registered foreign attorneys in Taiwan.

Kao is a trial lawyer in complex IP and commercial litigation cases. His practice includes trade secrets, trademark, patent and copyright disputes. Meanwhile, Tsai is experienced in U.S. patent law and has handled cases involving high technology, standard essential patents, FRAND/ RAND royalties, and Hatch-Waxman/Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDA).
