Mayer Brown has hired international arbitration expert Kay-Jannes Wegner as a partner in its litigation & dispute resolution practice in Singapore from Korea’s largest law firm, Kim & Chang. Wegner will relocate from Seoul.

He becomes Mayer Brown’s third lateral partner hire in Singapore this year, after the firm brought on board energy expert Justin Tan from Clyde & Co in April and banking and finance expert Soumitro Mukerji from Hogan Lovells in January. The office now has 12 partners.

At Kim & Chang, Wegner worked for more than 11 years. He was a senior member of the the Korean firm's international & cross-border litigation practice, and head of its European arbitration desk. Moving with him to Mayer Brown is associate Edern Coënt.

With more than 20 years of experience, Wegner represents Asian and European clients in arbitration cases, including construction and infrastructure disputes, as well as energy and defense-related arbitrations. He appears as as an arbitrator in ICC and Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB) cases.

Wegner began his career at Clifford Chance in London in 2001, and moved to Herbert Smith Freehills’ Singapore office in 2008. He joined Kim & Chang in 2011.
