South Korean Big Six firm Yulchon has continued its hot partner hiring streak in 2024 with the addition of former Lee & Ko media and entertainment practice head Chunghwan Choi to its Seoul-based intellectual property and technology practice.

Choi is the firm’s ninth partner hire this year, and also Choi the third intellectual property partner to join Yulchon in 2024, following the addition of JongCheol Lee and Mun Hui Kim in March.

In April, the 700-plus lawyer firm added a four-partner M&A team from Yoon & Yang, led by practice head Sung-Jin Kim.

The firm has also added leading arbitration lawyer David MacArthur in March. Yulchon also hired a number of former Korean prosecutors, including Sang Mook Kang, who joined in February, and Wook Jin Rha and Woo Y. Choe, who joined in December.

Choi has advised international media giants such as Netflix, Apple TV, Walt Disney, Warner Bros., NBC Universal, Creative Artist Agency as well as major music companies including EMI, Warner Music, and Sony Music.

He has also advised broadcasting and cable TV companies, IT firms, online game companies, sports leagues and agencies, art museums and galleries, fashion and cosmetic entities, and healthcare firms, Yulchon said in a statement.

Before Lee & Ko, Choi spent time at Kim & Chang and DW Partners.

Doil Son, head of Yulchon’s IP and technology practice said in a statement that firm is looking to leverage Choi’s expertise, deep industry knowledge and leadership skills “to further enhance the services we offer to our international clients and drive continued success for the firm.”
