British oil and gas company BP has chosen Ashurst, Baker McKenzie, Dentons, Pinsent Masons and Simmons & Simmons as its legal advisors in Singapore for the years 2022 to 2024. This marks the first time BP has assembled a panel specifically for Singapore.

In total, BP named 26 legal advisors across four panels: Singapore, global, UK and U.S. The global panel features Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith Freehills, Linklaters, Norton Rose Fulbright and Sullivan & Cromwell.

The UK and U.S. panels have eight and 11 firms respectively. While firms like Ashurst, Dentons and Pinsent Masons figure on the UK panel, the U.S. panel’s firms include Baker Botts, Kirkland & Ellis, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Reed Smith.

“The selection process comprised of a competitive bid process focused on rates, commitment to diversity & inclusion and capability relevant to the energy transition,” BP said in a statement.

According to Bloomberg Law, the selection of firms marks a departure from BP’s previous system of just two legal panels, one for the U.K. and one for its international operations.

Many of the panel firms, like Baker Botts, have previously advised BP on matters such as its $5.6 billion midstream Alaska business sale to Harvest Alaska last year, Bloomberg Law added.
