Indonesia’s legal market is experiencing significant growth, driven by a resilient economy, evolving regulations, and increasing demand for specialised legal services. As the country enters a new phase of expansion, a fresh generation of law firms is rising to meet the needs of a rapidly changing landscape. These firms stand out for their ability to seamlessly integrate local expertise with global strategies, providing innovative solutions across diverse sectors. ALB recognises these emerging leaders who are not only navigating the complexities of the market but are also actively shaping its future. The list is in alphabetical order.
In a testament to Indonesia’s dynamic legal landscape, Asian Legal Business (ALB) unveils its prestigious Indonesia Rising Stars 2025, spotlighting the country’s most promising legal practitioners under the age of 40. This curated list showcases emerging talents who have demonstrated competence in managing complex transactions, landmark cases, and high-stakes matters for prominent clients.
Selected through a rigorous evaluation process, these rising stars have not only secured significant victories and closed major deals – they have also earned widespread recognition from industry peers and clients alike.
These featured lawyers, all based permanently in Indonesia, represent a new generation of legal expertise across various practice areas, including corporate M&A and dispute resolution. Their selection was based on an outstanding track record of deal execution, innovative legal solutions, and industry accolades.
As Indonesia cement its place as Southeast Asia’s leading market, these rising legal talents are instrumental in strengthening regulations and enhancing investor protection.
Among those chosen to make the list is Victor Ricardo of Hendra Soenardi. Appointed partner at the firm at the age of 30, Ricardo’s rapid ascent includes being part of the legal team that successfully defended the Republic of Indonesia in an ICSID arbitration annulment case. He is quickly becoming a key figure in Indonesia’s banking, finance, project development, and M&A sectors.
In the past year, Ricardo has led several landmark transactions, including advising PT Kalimantan Aluminium Indonesia & PT Kaltara Power Industry in its $1.8 billion project financing for an aluminium smelter and a 1,060 MW power generation facility development. He also played a crucial role in PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk’s successful indirect acquisition of Energy Equity Epic (Sengkang), which holds a 51 percent participating interest in the Sengkang Working Area.
His client portfolio includes industry leaders such as PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk and PT Huawei Tech Investment. Ricardo’s expertise extends to advising three telecommunications consortiums in the continuation of $1 billion BTS 4G infrastructure projects across 5,618 rural areas.
“Victor has a profound understanding of our industry sector,” says Sylvia Trianasari Tambunan, deputy chief legal officer at PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk. “He consistently delivers the work proficiently and promptly while ensuring high integrity and independence.”
Additionally, Ricardo is a Hauser Global Scholar at NYU Law School, one of only four Indonesians to receive this prestigious scholarship.
Victor Juan Tanojo, another Hendra Soenardi partner to make the list, has emerged as a leading figure in Indonesia’s corporate law landscape, specialising in corporate and M&A, banking and finance, and international dispute resolution. At just 29 years old, Tanojo was named the firm’s youngest partner at age 29, and has become a formidable presence in high-stakes transactions and disputes.
Among his notable achievements is serving as counsel in the acquisition of PT Trimegah Sekuritas Tbk by Garibaldi Thohir, where he managed the entire process from initial negotiations to the mandatory tender offer. He also represented a major Indonesian property company in administrative disputes against the provincial government concerning license revocation.
Tanojo’s expertise has garnered recognition from various sources, including nominations as Recommended Lawyer in Hukumonline’s In-house Counsel Choice awards for three consecutive years (2022-2024), and being named as a Future Star by Benchmark Litigation 2024 edition. He recently contributed to the International Comparative Legal Guides’ Foreign Direct Investment Regimes Indonesia 2025 chapter.
“Not only does Victor possess sharp legal analytical abilities and mature negotiation skills, but he has the leadership qualities to ensure that his team continually meet the high standard of work product that he sets for clients,” says Soenardi Pardi, managing partner at Hendra Soenardi.
Yohanes Adhyaksatia Tamba, a partner at Tamba & Kumara Law Offices, has established himself as a multifaceted practitioner in the banking, corporate, insurance and technology sectors.
Recognised as Notable Practitioner by IFLR1000 in 2024, Tamba has been inducted into Hukumonline’s Hall of Fame for Law Firm Partners and has been named among their Most Recommended Lawyers for In-House Counsel Choice 2023-2024. His expertise covers complex corporate transactions and regulatory matters in Indonesia’s evolving business environment.
Over the past year, Tamba has managed significant transactions in the financial services sector, including advising on strategic acquisitions within the investment management industry and corporate restructuring in the manufacturing sector. His work encompasses comprehensive due diligence, transaction structuring, and documentation for high-value deals.
Tamba is actively involved in legal education and professional development, serving as a speaker and moderator at various industry events. Recent engagements include the Corporate Lawyer Starter Kit 101 program, which focused on insurance law, and moderating discussions on in-house counsel protection at the Hukumonline In-House Counsel Summit & Award.
His thought leadership extends to published analyses of key regulatory developments, such as the Financial Services Authority’s investment manager regulations and emerging personal data protection frameworks.
Another lawyer from Tamba & Kumara making the list is senior associate Hafid Triadmaja Syahputra, an up-and-coming figure in Indonesia’s dispute resolution landscape, specialising in commercial, construction, employment, and antitrust litigation.
An alumnus of the University of Melbourne’s LL.M. program with a focus on dispute resolution and competition law, Syahputra has made significant contributions to Indonesia’s legal framework. He has worked extensively on national strategic policy initiatives, collaborating with multiple government agencies to strengthen Indonesia’s data governance framework.
Currently, Syahputra is engaged in high-stakes international arbitration proceedings in Singapore. His expertise in data privacy has led to his appointment by international clients to conduct comprehensive data protection assessments for their Indonesian operations, earning him recognition as a finalist for ALB’s Data Privacy and Protection Lawyer of the Year 2024.
His thought leadership is demonstrated through multiple publications in 2023-2024, covering important developments in Indonesian law, including analyses of the Supreme Court Circular Letter No. 3 of 2023, the new Criminal Code, electronic court proceedings, and personal data protection regulations. Recently, he shared his expertise as a speaker at the 9th Annual International Arbitration & Corporate Crime Summit, where he discussed award enforcement strategies.
