Global law firm Ashurst has hired Michael Henao, former head of legal and regulatory at Digicel Papua New Guinea, as a partner to lead its disputes and regulatory practice in Port Moresby.
Henao returns to Ashurst after over seven years at the telecommunications giant and previous experience at Bank of South Pacific. He originally worked at the firm when it operated as Blake Dawson.
"I am thrilled to return to Ashurst, which has the global network and local presence to achieve the best results for our clients," Henao said in a statement. "I am excited to lead the Port Moresby office's litigation practice."
Ian Shepherd, leading Ashurst PNG partner, described Henao as "well regarded in the legal fraternity" who will help the firm "meet the evolving needs of our clients."
The appointment strengthens Ashurst's full-service offering in Papua New Guinea, which includes expertise in major energy projects, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and commercial legal services.
With Henao's appointment, Ashurst PNG now comprises five lawyers. They include partners Henao and Shepherd, and partner-elect Tureia Sample, who joined last year from PwC Australia.
