U.S. law firm Jones Day has expanded its Hong Kong office with its second partner hire in about a month after bringing on board M&A expert Frank Voon as a partner from K&L Gates, where he spent more than 11 years.
Voon has more than two decades of experience advising on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions across sectors such as automotive, entertainment, healthcare and life sciences, mining and energy, real estate, logistics, and technology.
With experience guiding clients on their strategic investments both into and out of Asia, Voon has advised a U.S. fund on a $17.5 billion capital raise by a Chinese state-owned enterprise and facilitated a U.S. private equity fund's 2-billion-yuan venture into China's logistics real estate sector.
His recent achievements include representing an Indian conglomerate in acquiring a Japanese automotive parts manufacturer, assisting a Fortune 500 company in forming a joint venture for a studio tour in the PRC, and supporting a Japanese-listed firm in developing chemical manufacturing facilities in the PRC.
Prior to joining K&L Gates in 2014, Voon was a counsel at Allen & Overy’s Shanghai and Beijing offices for four years. He earlier worked for Australian law firm Allens and Singapore’s Allen & Gledhill and held an in-house role at Singapore Power International.
With Voon’s addition, Jones Day now has 17 lawyers in Hong Kong.
