Herbert Smith Freehills has expanded its private capital bench in Singapore after hiring Peiwen Chen (L) as a partner from White & Case, and relocated partner Malika Chandrasegaran from the firm's Sydney office.

The additions come as HSF sees demand for legal support in the energy transition and infrastructure, and technology sectors, the firm said in a statement.

With more than a dozen years of experience, Chen advises clients such as financial sponsors, including private equity funds, strategic corporates, and sovereign wealth funds, on M&As and investments with a strong focus on infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

Before spending nearly seven years at White & Case in Singapore, Chen worked for international law firms Linklaters and Slaughter and May in Hong Kong.

Specialising in private capital transactions, public and private M&A, joint ventures, demergers and distressed M&A, Chandrasegaran advises clients in sectors such as TMT, consumer, healthcare, infrastructure and financial services.

The additions of Chen and Chandrasegaran mean that HSF now has 17 partners in Singapore.
