Tae Ho Bark
Former Trade Minister of Korea
Professor Emeritus, Seoul National University
Taeho Bark is currently Professor Emeritus (former professor and Dean) of the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) at Seoul National University, President of Seoul Forum for International Affairs (SFIA) and the Chairman of the Korean Committee of the Trilateral Commission. Recently, Professor Bark served a Non-Resident Senior Visiting Scholar at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs of the Harvard Kennedy School. Professor Bark served Minister for Trade of the Korean government (December 2011-March 2013). In spring 2013, Dr. Bark was in the race for the Director-General position of the WTO as the Korean candidate. He also served the Chairman of the International Trade Commission of the Korean Government. Prior to coming to Seoul National University, Professor Bark taught international economics at Georgetown University, worked as a senior research fellow of the Korea Development Institute (KDI) and served the Vice President of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). During 2000-2002, Dr. Bark worked as Chair of the Investment Expert Group (IEG) of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). He gave lectures at PSIA of Sciences Po, Stanford University and the University of Washington as visiting professor. In addition, he was a visiting scholar at the IMF and consulted for the World Bank and the Asia Development Bank. He has authored books and articles on international trade, foreign direct investment and the Korean economy. He was awarded “the Order of Service Merit, Yellow Stripes” (second highest grade) by the Korean government. Professor Bark received his BA from Seoul National University and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He currently serves as President of the Global Commerce Institute of Lee & Ko, a leading global law firm in Korea.

Jessica (Eun A) Park
Director of Legal, APAC , Waters Corporation
Jessica (Eun A) Park is a US qualified lawyer with extensive work experience across the private and public sectors worldwide including in the United States, Switzerland, Singapore and South Korea. She is currently Director of Legal at the US-headquartered multinational company and responsible for all the legal and compliance matters arising out of the APAC region including India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia and other Southeast Asia countries. Prior to this role, she served as Legal Officer of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland and the Representative of the WIPO Arbitration Medication Center in Singapore in charge of stakeholder engagement and dispute management for the APAC region.
Heehwan Kwon (Mr.)
Director , Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB)
Mr. Heehwan Kwon is the Director at the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB). He has been with KCAB since 2002, working in various divisions within the organization including the department of planning and management. He also has extensive experience as an arbitration case administrator. He was instrumental in the revision process of the 2016 KCAB International Arbitration Rules and has overseen the planning of the KCAB roadshows outside of Korea since 2016. He holds a B.A. in Public Administration and Policy from Yonsei University and a masters from the KDI School of Public Policy and Management. Also, he is about to finalize his Ph.D. course by majoring in international trade.
Hee Eun LEE (이희언)
Dean & Professor of Law, Handong International Law School
Hee Eun Lee is the Dean of Handong International Law School. An expert in public international law, he is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Yearbook of International Law (Brill) and an editor of the Korean Journal of International and Comparative Law. Before joining the HILS faculty, Dean Lee practiced law in New York engaging in commercial litigation and maritime arbitration. He currently hosts a weekly radio segment on Arirang Radio’s “Good Morning Seoul” program and previously hosted "The Point," a weekly news program broadcast by Arirang TV, Korea's leading English language broadcasting station.
Mingyo Kim
General Counsel, Korea Exchange
Dow Kim
Group General Counsel, Kering Korea
Dow Kim is the Group General Counsel at Kering Korea. He is responsible for legal and compliance affair arising out of the businesses throughout all Kering Group Brands in Korea, including Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Boucheron, Pomellato, Dodo, Qeelin, Ulysse Nardin, Girard-Perregaux, as well as Kering Eyewear.
Prior to Kering, Dow spent 12 years at Oracle Korea and had colorful experiences as Senior Legal Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer for 11 years. In summary, he is experienced in (i) engaging in IP rights related matters including without limitation IP litigation, (ii) engaging in licensing and services transactions and mergers and acquisitions, (iii) leading the operations of the legal department at Oracle Korea with over 1300 employees, (iv) serving as a liaison between Oracle Korea and Oracle HQ and harmonizing the cultural and differences between them.
Professor Hi-Taek Shin
Arbitrator, Twenty Essex, London/Singapore
Professor Hi-Taek Shin is an arbitrator at Twenty Essex, London/Singapore. Until recently, he served as the Chairman of KCAB INTERNATIONAL, the international division of Korean Commercial Arbitration Board.
He has unique experience combining a successful career as counsel, academic and arbitrator, as well as in the public service. Until 2007, he had long been a partner of Kim & Chang, the leading Korean law firm. Since 2007, he taught international investment law and investor-State arbitration at Seoul National University School of Law until his retirement in 2017. He also served as the Commissioner of the Korea Trade Commission, the trade remedy authority of the Republic of Korea.
Hyungin Ha
General Counsel & Senior Vice President, DN Group
Hyungin Ha serves as the General Counsel & Senior Vice President of DN Group and is a seasoned in-house counsel. He possesses a wide range of expertise in financial transactions and regulatory matters, encompassing fair trade regulation, employment law, compliance, securities, and banking.
Mr. Ha’s career path has followed a distinguished trajectory, beginning as a Public Prosecutor. He then worked as an associate at Lee&Ko, followed by his role as the Regional counsel of IBM Korea’s Legal Department. Additionally, he served as the counsel for Ministry of Government Legislation. Mr. Ha holds his L.L.D. degree from Yonsei University and a B.A. in Economics from Seoul National University. He attended the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea and was admitted to the Korean bar in 1999.
Yusun Woo
Senior Intellectual Property Manager, Louis Vuitton Korea
Yusun Woo is Senior Intellectual Property Manager at Louis Vuitton Korea. She is responsible for protecting intellectual property rights of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) brands in Korea. In such capacity, Yusun focuses on trademark law, design law, unfair competition prevention law while engaging in criminal and civil litigations for damages among other things. Prior to joining Louis Vuitton in 2011, Yusun worked for three years at the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland as a case manager in charge of administering domain name dispute cases under various international policies including the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). She is a member of the State Bar of California
Roger Chae
Group General Counsel, Global Legal & Compliance, Hanon Systems
Roger Chae is the General Counsel for Hanon Systems’ global operations in over twenty countries and is supported by team members in the Americas, Europe, South Africa, and Asia Pacific. Roger started his legal career as a Prosecutor in the United States. With a quest to continually learn, he served in various roles in the courts, at international law firms and multinational corporations. He particularly enjoys commercial and legal strategies, projects focused on sustainability/growth, finding solutions, and making a difference. Roger grew up in Hawaii and completed his undergraduate studies in International Business at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and obtained his law degree from the University of San Francisco. His interests in global business are complemented by an MBA from Indiana University, Kelley School of Business.

ELIGIBILITY
How do I know if I am eligible to make a submission?
We highly encourage all firms, individuals and in-house teams to submit, as we have numerous award categories to choose from. We welcome both past participants and newcomers to join the submission for the awards.
Is self-nomination permitted?
Yes, we accept self-nominated submissions. We also accept third-party submissions, should you wish to nominate an external party or vice versa.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
When will the finalists and winners be announced?
The shortlist of finalists will be released around 4-8 weeks prior to the awards ceremony. The winners will be exclusively announced at the awards ceremony in November 2024.
NOMINATION PROCESS AND ASSESSMENT
How are the finalists chosen?
Asian Legal Business will compile all of the submission entries, and the ALB editorial and research teams will extensively review each submission to ensure the criteria are met in order to advance to the shortlist of finalists. We stress that this process is fair, impartial and not subject to external influences.
How are the winners chosen?
Once the shortlist of finalists have been announced, an independent judging panel will review and select their top three choices for the award categories they are assigned to. The scores for each award category will be tabulated, and the individual/firm/team with the highest score will be announced as the winner.
What are the award categories that I can take part in?
Any law firms, in-house teams or individuals may take part in multiple award categories if appropriate. ALB reserve the right to move entries from one category to another if such a change is considered appropriate. ALB’s decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
Who will be on the judging panel for ALB Korea Law Awards?
There will be an independent judging panel of at least 25 senior and expert legal industry leaders to review the submission materials. The judging panel will be selected on the basis of their expertise and knowledge and will be comprised from various sectors to correspond to the diverse list of award categories. A partial list of judges’ names will be released prior to the awarding ceremony, and the remaining judges will be revealed on the evening of the awards.
What will my contact information/my client’s information be used for?
All contact information provided will not be disclosed to external parties; and will only be seen by our ALB research team and the judge's panel. We keep the information on record internally, in case we need to contact you or your client regarding any questions or discrepancies in the submission form.
Where will my name/firm name/team name be published if we are a finalist or winner?
As a finalist and/or winner, your firm/team/individual name will be published in ALB awards materials and print magazine. For more information, please contact us.
Is my submission confidential?
The submission information will be provided to the independent judging panel, for the judging purpose only, whose names will be published. The material submitted will only be disclosed to the above; if there is any information that is strictly confidential, please mark clearly on the nomination form. Though we do our best to maintain the security of the information you provide, any information you transmit to us is done at your own risk and Thomson Reuters is not responsible for any unauthorized transmission of information.
