Shearman & Sterling has hired Anthony Patten, most recently head of Allens’ oil and gas sector team in Asia and Australia, as a partner in its project development and finance practice in Singapore.

Prior to his stint with Allens, Patten was a partner in Ashurst’s London energy, transport, and infrastructure group, and he also spent six years working in London and the UAE as a senior in-house counsel at Royal Dutch Shell.

His practice focuses on corporate and project development work in the energy industry, with an emphasis on oil and gas. His work has included projects across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia, and his clients have included oil and gas companies, trading houses, utilities, and independents, particularly in Japan, Korea, China and Southeast Asia.

“Anthony is a very important addition for us as we continue to expand our global Project Development & Finance practice area in Asia and around the world,” said Creighton Condon, Shearman & Sterling’s Senior Partner, in a statement. “He is an outstanding lawyer, with a leading reputation in the oil and gas industry.”

Recently, Shearman moved project development and finance partner Ben Shorten from London to Singapore to bolster the firm’s capabilities in the energy sector.
