Baker & McKenzie International has strengthened its Asia-Pacific practice with new elections to partnership and making recent lateral hires to its member firms in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
In Singapore, Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow promoted Timothy Cooke to partnership. Cooke hails from the firm’s dispute and resolution practice and advises clients in international arbitrations and mediations in a variety of commercial disputes, notably in the areas of oil & gas, telecommunications, engineering, construction, banking and trusts.
Nadia Nasoetion and Ponti Partogi from Baker & McKenzie’s Indonesia member firm, Hadiputranto Hadinoto & Partners were similarly promoted. Nasoetion comes from the firm’s finance and projects practice and covers banking & finance work, loan syndication, debt restructuring, acquisition finance and project financing. Partogi specialises in the firm’s tax practice, focusing on domestic and international tax planning relating to inbound and outbound investment, corporate and debt restructuring of multinational companies, as well as tax litigation services.  
The new partnerships are effective from 1 July 2010. “These promotions demonstrate the depth of our talent in South-East Asia and our confidence in the growth prospects of these key practice areas,” managing principal Clive Cook from Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow in Singapore said.
These elections follow the recent partner additions of Emmanuel Hadjidakis from Allen & Overy Singapore to Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow; and Mark Lim from Albar & Partners Malaysia to Baker & McKenzie’s member firm in Malaysia, Wong & Partners. Both lawyers joined the respective finance and projects practices of the two firms.ALB
