China’s Han Kun Law Offices has entered into an alliance with Italian law firm Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners, allowing the two firms to work together on advising clients in China and Hong Kong, as well as Chinese investors with investments in Europe.

The agreement involves combined teams dedicated to specific clients and practices, client development arrangements, joint training, consultation and marketing, Han Kun said in a statement.

The Italian firm has about 360 lawyers across five offices in Italy, as well as in Abu Dhabi, Brussels, London, New York and Hong Kong.

Han Kun has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and, since last December, in Hong Kong. The alliance includes Han Kun’s Hong Kong associated firm, Choy, Chung & Co.

"We are very pleased to team-up with Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners,” said Han Kun partner Charles Li, in a statement.

“This shared focus will benefit our respective firms’ clients as they extend their businesses to new regions.”

The two firms join forces at a time when Chinese investment into Europe is increasing. Italy is now the second largest recipient of Chinese foreign direct investment in Europe, after the UK.
