Japanese firm Nishimura & Asahi has expanded its Indonesian network by entering into an association with local firm Walalangi & Partners (W&P).

N&A, the largest firm in Japan, first made inroads into Indonesia in 2014, when it entered into an association with local firm Rosetini & Partners and set up an associate office there.

W&P was founded last year by Indonesian corporate and financing lawyer Luky Walalangi. He is supported by a group of local lawyers, as well as a Japanese lawyer who will be transferred from N&A’s Tokyo office. The Indonesian firm’s focus is supporting inbound investment and financing activity in a variety of sectors, particularly on Japanese investment into Indonesia, as well as building relationships with domestic corporate clients.

“Our firm has been involved in Indonesian business for a number of years and the opportunity to develop a close relationship based around supporting the strategic needs of our clients in Indonesia is fundamental to delivering the best service to those clients,” said Masaki Hosaka, N&A’s managing partner, in a statement.

The rest of the Japanese Big Four firms also have similar arrangements – a Jakarta desk – in the Southeast Asian country: Anderson Mori & Tomotsune with Roosdiono & Partners, Mori Hamada & Matsumoto with AKSET, and Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu with Soemadipradja & Taher.
