Singapore’s Ministry of Law (MinLaw) and Law Society (LawSoc), together with Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), have launched a S$3.68 million ($2.7 million) scheme to help local law firms adopt technology.

According to a statement from MinLaw, under the Tech-celerate for Law programme, Singapore law practices can get funding support of up to 70 percent of the first-year cost of adopting baseline and advanced technology solutions. Each law practice can receive funding of up to S$30,000 for baseline solutions and up to S$100,000 for advanced solutions.

Interested firms can apply for the baseline solutions through the Business Grant Portal, and for the advanced solutions through the Law Society. The scheme will run until May 1 next year.

To further support lawyers, Workforce Singapore and LawSoc will be starting a series of programmes to equip them with the skills for practising law in a digitalised environment and for managing transformation and innovation. These will be launched in second half of 2019.

As part of the programme, Thomson Reuters has been pre-approved as a provider of online legal research and document assembly solutions, including Contract Express, Westlaw Asia, and Practical Law.
