Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman has beefed up its Tokyo corporate and securities practice with the addition of partner Hideki Akiyama, who joins the firm from Atsumi & Sakai.

Akiyama has more than a dozen years of experience representing clients in general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganisations, global compliance, labour and employment, and litigation and dispute resolution matters.

Akiyama’s hire takes the total number of partners at Pillsbury’s Tokyo office to eight, including four partners and one senior counsel. The managing partner of the office is William R. Huss.

“At Pillsbury, we are seeing a major increase in outbound investment coming from Japan as a result of the strong yen, and captivating investment opportunities generated throughout the global economy,” said Pillsbury chair, Jim Rishwain, in a statement. “With Hideki at Pillsbury, we have enhanced our enduring commitment to our global clients doing business in Asia and Japan, and to our Japan clients doing business in the United States and throughout the world.” ALB
