Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has promoted four to partnership in Hong Kong, effective May 1. The promotions were awarded to corporate specialists Charles Ching and Edward Freeman, dispute resolution specialist Georgia Dawson, and IP/TMT specialist Mark Parsons. The new appointments boost the total number of partners based in Hong Kong to 17.

Commenting on the appointments, the firm’s Asia managing partner Robert Ashworth said: “Charles, Ed, Georgia and Mark all demonstrate the qualities that we really value – top quality legal skills and an absolute commitment to strong client relationships. We are very pleased to be welcoming them as new partners. With the all round strength of these appointments, together with other opportunities we are pursuing in the region, we expect to continue to build on our market-leading position in the key markets in Asia.”

Ching works with clients on a broad range of corporate work, with a particular focus on advising corporate clients and financial sponsors in cross border transactions. A member of the firm’s corporate department, Freeman, meanwhile, has extensive experience working with clients on cross borders M&As, privatisations, and corporate finance transactions across Asia and Europe.

Part of Freshfields’ dispute resolution practice, Dawson specialises in cross border disputes and contentious regulatory matters. Finally, Parsons is a member of the firm’s IP and TMT group. His portfolio of work includes advising clients on a wide range of matters pertaining to the TMT sector, such as outsourcings, technology licensing and brand-related work.

Two new dispute resolution partners are expected to join the firm in the summer. Freshfields’ global international arbitration group co-head Lucy Reed will relocate to Hong Kong from the New York office. She will be joined later by Geoff Nicholas, the co-head of the firm’s global investigations practice. ALB
