Global law firm DLA Piper has named former Du vice-president Mahmood Ahmad as legal director at its Dubai office, thus bolstering its focus on corporate governance in the region.

Ahmad, who is an Emirati national, has extensive experience of advising within the public and private sectors. He has helped develop the “Security, Justice and Safety” segment of the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, and was previously the deputy registrar of the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts.

"Over the last few years, corporate governance has, rightly, quickly risen to near the top of every company's agenda, and given the current economic environment, I expect it will stay there for the foreseeable future. Mahmood's appointment will ensure DLA Piper becomes the go-to law firm for corporate governance issues," said Abdul Aziz Al Yaqout, regional managing partner, DLA Piper Middle East.

The statement said that although Ahmed will be based in Dubai, he will focus on regional clients as well. ALB
