International law firm Holland & Knight has expanded its presence in the United Arab Emirates by hiring Marc Sukkar as partner at its Abu Dhabi office. The firm has also named Nijoe Joseph as an associate in Abu Dhabi.

Sukkar was formerly a senior counsel at Qatar’s Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation, where he advised on notable projects including Msheireb Downtown Doha, a $6 billion mega project with a proposed underground metro. His practice focuses on construction law, energy, and dispute resolution.

Joseph, who has returned to the firm after having joined Reed Smith late last year, advises international and local companies, and family businesses on corporate, commercial, trade and transportation (aviation and maritime) laws in the  UAE, GCC, and India. He was previously a legal adviser and regulations specialist with the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (Maritime sector).

"The addition of Marc and Nijoe to our Abu Dhabi team will significantly expand the range of services we offer (to) our UAE clients and our international clients with interests in the region," said Andrew Stephenson, executive partner of the Abu Dhabi office. "Both are outstanding lawyers with extensive experience in the Middle East, and will be instrumental to the continuing growth of the office."
