Trowers & Hamlins has promoted specialist construction lawyer Eric Teo from senior associate to partner.

Teo joined the firm’s Dubai office in March 2012 to bolster its Middle East construction and dispute resolution team which now consists of three partners and seven associates across Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman.

Before becoming a lawyer, Teo was a project engineer in the construction industry and has since practised law with top tier law firms in Dubai, Australia, and Malaysia. He has also represented a number of clients on several complex and high-value construction disputes in the local courts and under the DIAC, ADCCAC, and ICC rules of arbitration.

“Our construction practice has been one of our major areas of growth during the last few years, and we are fortunate that we have been able to attract a lawyer of Eric's calibre,” said Abdullah Mutawi, head of the firm’s UAE practice, in a statement.

“Over one-third of the firm's new intake of partners this year is from our international offices. It emphasises our commitment to our practices in the Middle East, and the importance we place on our offering in the region,” he said.
