Baker & McKenzie has hired Saw Yu Win, a Myanmar-qualified lawyer, from DFDL’s Myanmar affiliate, in another sign of the growing level of business interest in the country.

Win, who joins from Myanmar Thanlwin Legal Services, has been tasked with growing Baker & McKenzie’s Myanmar practice. She will be based in Bangkok.

With experience in cross-border investment in the energy, mining, and telecommunications sectors, as well as general corporate and commercial matters, Win has advised companies on major project financing, taxation, customs, labour and employment, as well as government contract matters.

"I am extremely pleased to welcome Dr Win to Baker & McKenzie," said Chirachai Okanurak, Baker & McKenzie’s Thailand managing partner, in a statement. “With more than 15 years of experience advising foreign clients in Myanmar, she is a perfect fit for our Myanmar Center. She will be a huge asset in servicing clients that are thinking about expansion there.”

A former university lecturer, Win worked with Russin & Vecchi, which later became Myanmar Thanlwin Legal Services, for 15 years.
