TurksLegal has announced an all female 2012 promotions line-up. Fiona Hanlon has been promoted to partner in the financial services practice and four female lawyers have been promoted to senior associate. Former Bartier Perry lawyer Georgina McSpadden has also joined the firm as a special counsel.

Hanlon has spent a large part of her career with the firm as one half of a highly successful job share. Hanlon is an experienced practitioner in life insurance risk products and has had significant commercial experience in financial services including investment products, deposit bonds, and financial planning advice.

According to TurksLegal managing partner Peter Turk the firm has benefited from the job share arrangement because it retained two talented people who worked hard, and gave both the opportunity to achieve their own personal objectives.

“The reality is that gender has never been an influencing factor when determining who will be promoted at TurksLegal and that is reflected in the statistics. Including these 2012 promotions, 25 percent of our partners are women and over 60 percent of our senior associates are women,” said Turk. “We didn’t start the promotion process with the sole objective of promoting women only. Quite the opposite. We are a fast growing firm and we need people who are extremely good at what they do and who are committed to the culture and values of the firm.”

Melissa Godfrey, who has been promoted to senior associate, is expecting her first child and will be taking maternity leave shortly.
