Lavan Legal managing partner Greg Gaunt is to take on a new role at the firm from February 1.

Gaunt is to become the firm’s inaugural executive chairman, and will be replaced by deputy managing partner Dean Hely.

Hely has been a partner at Lavan Legal (which was known as Phillips Fox until 2006) for 13 years and has been deputy managing partner for 10 of those years. During his time as deputy managing partner he has also been the head of the commercial advice and litigation group, and the lead partner of the firm’s insolvency and reconstruction team. As managing partner Hely will maintain his oversight of these areas.

In his new role Gaunt will focus on mentoring the next wave of leaders at the firm and building the Lavan Legal brand into new industry sectors.
