Southeast Asian law firm Tilleke & Gibbins has hired insurance specialist Aaron Le Marquer as a consultant at its Bangkok office.

Le Marquer will focus on a full range of insurance work, including both contentious and non-contentious matters, along with developing and implementing case strategy for claims arising from insurance and reinsurance disputes. He will also collaborate with the firm’s corporate and commercial group to advise on commercial agreements, policy wordings, and regulatory requirements within the insurance sector in Thailand and Vietnam.

Previously Assistant General Counsel for AIG Asia-Pacific in Singapore, where he had regional responsibility for significant litigation and commercial lines business in 14 Asia-Pacific countries, Le Marquer has also worked in the London offices of Shook, Hardy & Bacon and Pinsent Masons, handling claims for insurers in the U.S., Europe, Middle East, and Asia.

“Aaron is a tremendous addition to our insurance team,” said Tiziana Sucharitkul, co-managing partner and director, dispute resolution, at Tilleke & Gibbins, in a statement. “His in-depth understanding of the insurance industry will be invaluable in serving our multinational clients in this important field.”

Insurance has become an increasingly prominent practice area in the Thai legal market, particularly in the wake of a large number of claims arising from the 2010 political unrest and the 2011 floods.
