White & Case has strengthened its energy, infrastructure, project and asset finance practice in Southeast Asia after moving partner Steve Payne from Beijing to Singapore, and hiring counsel David Gartside from Allen & Overy.

Payne relocates to Singapore as the practice head. Having spent more than 15 years at the firm, he advises sponsors and commercial, export credit and multilateral lenders on conventional and renewable power, oil and gas, petrochemical, telecommunication, and water and wastewater projects. Payne has worked in Indonesia.

Gartside has experience advising Japanese and Korean financial institutions, trading houses and contractors on joint overseas projects and was recently advised in the US$215 million financing for a Malaysian smelting plant.
