Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has boosted its M&A and private equity expertise with the hire of Edward Johnson as a partner at its Tokyo office.

Formerly a partner with Paul Hastings in Tokyo, Johnson focuses on M&A, joint ventures and restructurings. He also advises clients on competition law, dispute resolution, and regulatory and compliance matters.

Some of Johnson’s notable Japan-related deals include advising The Walt Disney Company on its mobile virtual network joint venture with Softbank Mobile Corporation, and counseling Warburg Pincus on the sale of its stake in Nikko Asset Management to Sumitomo Trust and Banking.

Johnson is Orrick’s second partner addition to its Tokyo office this year, following the arrival of intellectual property partner David Case from White & Case in March.
