Baker & McKenzie has poached Gilbert + Tobin partner and chief operating officer, Christopher Freeland, who will join the firm as national managing partner, Australia.
Freeland was elected to succeed Mark Chapple, who has held the position since September 2005. Chapple will remain as a partner at the firm.
Freeland has extensive international experience and in recent times has advised leading China firm King & Wood, in addition to consulting and holding senior management positions with The Boston Consulting Group in Australia and New York.
“The international experience that Chris brings matches the global perspective from which we view and consider our strategic opportunities,” chairman of Baker & McKeinzie Australia, Bruce Hambrett, said.

Freeland will join Baker & McKenzie on August 2.
