Peter Cook, an ALB Hot 40 Pre-eminent lawyer and partner at Mallesons Stephen Jaques, has taken up a partnership at Gilbert + Tobin. His appointment as partner in the corporate advisory group coincides with the appointment of three other partners at the firm.

Cook regularly advises on general corporate, securities law, governance, foreign investment and listing rule matters. He was a pivotal member of the Mallesons team which advised on the record-breaking but ultimately unsuccessful Chinalco investment into Rio Tinto. He was also a member of the ALB Australian Deal Team of the Year, named earlier this year.

Meanwhile, competition and anti-trust lawyer Elizabeth Avery has been promoted to partner in the competition and regulation group. Special counsel in the corporate transactions group Ros O’Mally has moved into a partner role with the banking and finance group, and Ken Saurajen from the corporate, communications and technology group makes up the fourth new partner appointment for G + T.
