In a move that is expected to significantly strengthen its maritime practice, Blank Rome recently named former Eversheds and DLA Piper partner Ronald Sum as a partner in its Hong Kong office. Sum, who joined Blank Rome’s International and Maritime Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution group, has more than 15 years of litigation, arbitration, and mediation experience in Hong Kong, England, and the United States, having conducted court proceedings on a global scale.

“Ronald brings a depth of experience in transportation and insurance litigation matters that extends to various countries in Asia, particularly Hong Kong, mainland China, and Taiwan,” said Alan J. Hoffman, co-chairman and managing partner of Blank Rome. Nigel Binnersley, administrative partner, added: “As we continue to focus on expanding our Asia practice, Ronald further reinforces our reputation as a leader in the maritime industry.”

Concentrating his practice in litigation, arbitration, and mediation matters in the areas of maritime, international trade, insurance and reinsurance, product liability, and product recall, Sum’s experience includes charter party disputes, defending and pursuing cargo claims, acting for and against logistics companies and freight forwarders and liability insurers in various types of claims, and representing ship owners and P&I clubs in collision cases.

Sum, who is noted as a leading transportation and logistics attorney, also frequently advises banks and ship-owners on various forms of ship financing, drafting agreements, insurance policies, and various other transportation related documents. ALB
