Berwin Leighton Paisner’s disputes team in Singapore welcomed a high-profile addition in the form of Stuart Isaacs, an internationally recognised arbitrator and arbitration counsel.

Isaacs, who is acknowledged as one of London's leading barristers, also has his own office in Singapore, a city with which he has been professionally connected since 1979. He was the first London QC to be licensed by the Singapore Attorney General to practise as a foreign lawyer in Singapore.

Having been admitted to the Singapore bar on an ad hoc basis on several occasions to appear in the Singapore courts, Isaacs will continue to be available to local firms in that role at BLP. In addition to representing clients in many significant court cases and arbitrations around the world, he is a Deputy High Court Judge in England and a member of the New York Bar. He also acts as a mediator, particularly in high value banking disputes.

Isaacs’ areas of focus include major banking and financial disputes, the insurance and energy sectors, international trade issues, and cases involving civil fraud, professional negligence and insolvency. He acts for banks and financial institutions, multinational companies, professional firms, high net worth individuals, governments and government agencies, and various trade bodies.

The hire of Isaacs further boosts BLP’s Singapore dispures team, following the appointment of international arbitration partner Kent Phillips, who is scheduled to join in November.

"Stuart is one of the leaders of the Bar. Attracting someone of his calibre is a major coup for the firm, reflecting the growing stature of our litigation and dispute resolution team, which has tripled in size over the last five years. We now have some 170 lawyers specialising in  contentious business across the firm. Stuart's international arbitration expertise and commercial advocacy is second to none and there is a strong overlap between his practice and BLP's client base,” said Jonathan Sacher, the head of BLP's litigation and dispute resolution department, in a statement.
