The Large Law Firm Group (LLFG), comprising of top tier international and regional law firms, has announced that Clayton Utz chief operating officer and managing partner Stuart Clark will succeed Robert Milliner as the group’s chairman.

Milliner, who is also currently chief executive partner at Mallesons Stephen Jaques, has held the inaugural role for five years, and was the driving force behind a number of changes and lobbying to Government and regulators regarding the practice of corporate law in Australia.  "It has been a privilege to work with my colleagues amongst the large law firms on the further development of the Australian legal profession,” said Milliner. “I am looking forward to the implementation of the National Legal Profession Reform project after the legislation is passed next year and to the ongoing development of the Law Council of Australia as the peak body representing Australia's lawyers.”

Milliner will also step down from the role of chief executive partner at Mallesons from January 2012. Managing partner Tony O’Malley will replace him as the Mallesons LLFG representative.

The LLFG’s principal focus is the drive for an integrated Law Council of Australia (LCA) as the umbrella organisation for Australia’s legal profession and for reform of the national legal profession.  The LLFG advocates that a common approach across all Australian jurisdictions will deliver benefits to business which will flow through to the broader Australian community.

Clark said he was pleased to be given the opportunity of continuing to pursue the LLFG’s reform agenda and in particular working with the profession and the business community to ensure the successful implementation of the national legal profession reform package.

The LLFG represents the following law firms: Allens Arthur Robinson, Blake Dawson, Clayton Utz, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, DLA Piper Australia, Freehills, Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Minter Ellison and Norton Rose.
