Storied Mumbai firm Wadia Ghandy has announced that its Singapore office is now fully operational after two more partners received the necessary approvals from the island nation’s authorities.
The office is headed by partner Nicole Shroff who received her license back in May this year. Recent license receivers include Bangalore partner Ankit Majmudar and Mumbai partner Shabnum Kajiji, both of whom are expected to travel to Singapore on a regular basis.
The firm is one of five Indian firms registered with the Singapore Attorney-General's Chambers, the other four being Dua Associates, Kochhar & Co., Lexygen and Nishith Desai Associates. In Singapore, Wadia Ghandy is authorized to practice Indian law.
Founded in 1883, Wadia Ghandy, which claims to be one of the oldest in India, counts Temasek, 3i, HDFC Limited, Capital Private Equity and DBS Bank among its biggest clients in Singapore. “We have a strong existing clientele in and around the region, and we know that we can provide better legal services to them and all others located within this geography who are interested in doing business with India by being a local nexus to India,” said Shroff.
She added that the bulk of the office’s current work was in the areas of private equity, wealth management, debt and banking, and finance. Shroff also said she expected the work of the office to expand in the near future in all areas of Indian law. ALB
