Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has snagged Ken Cheung, head of Watson Farley Williams’ corporate practice in Asia, as it continues to expand its Singapore office.

With more than 16 years of work experience in Asia, Cheung specialises in corporate and commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, as well as disposals and corporate restructuring with a focus on the transport, energy and media sectors. Cheung is said to have a strong regional expertise, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia, and has experience in leading important transactions in the renewable energy sector.

“It is an exciting time for BLP in South East Asia and we are delighted to be able to attract someone with Ken’s expertise to our Singapore office. His experience in corporate transactions across Asia, combined with his renewables and private equity expertise, mean he is particularly well placed to help us expand in these areas,” said Alistair Duffield, BLP’s Singapore managing partner, in a statement.

The appointment continues BLP’s streak of high-level lawyer hires in Singapore during 2011. Duffield, a mining and natural resources expert, joined the firm earlier this year along with five other lawyers. More recently, international arbitration partner Kent Phillips, and private client specialist Simon Michaels were brought on board to jointly establish South-East Asia practices in those two areas. The firm also hired Stuart Isaacs, a Singapore veteran, to practise as a foreign lawyer in Singapore. ALB
