Singapore Big Four firm WongPartnership has rung in 2012 by welcoming former Drew & Napier disputes expert Harpreet Singh Nehal to its Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group, apart from promoting 12 lawyers across various practice areas to partner.

Nehal is the fifth senior counsel in WongPartnership’s litigation and dispute resolution practice, which currently has more than 100 dispute resolution lawyers. He has experience in international arbitration and litigation in a wide range of commercial disputes, including some with significant multijurisdictional issues. His areas of practice include disputes in banking and finance, commercial contracts, tort, company law, equity and trusts, and international arbitration.

Nehal recently successfully represented an oil and gas company in a multimillion dollar international arbitration in Nairobi against a Kenyan state-owned entity. In Singapore, he has acted in cases such as Chiam Heng Luan v Chiam Heng Hsien – a dispute over the sale of a $100 million property on Killiney Road – and represented Sembcorp Marine and its subsidiary in Jurong Shipyard v BNP, which was related to unauthorised foreign exchange transactions to the tune of $303 million.

"We are delighted to have Harpreet join the firm,” said Alvin Yeo, senior partner and chairman of WongPartnership’s executive committee. “He is an outstanding senior counsel in commercial disputes, and he will add strength and depth to our growing dispute resolution practice.”

The firm’s dispute resolution practice had a busy year in 2011 representing the Singapore Medical Council against Dr Susan Lim, Singapore Press Holdings in its intellectual property dispute against Yahoo!
