Malaysian firms Azmi & Associates and Jeff Leong, Poon & Wong have entered into a strategic alliance for two years, thereby strengthening their Southeast Asian presence, particularly in China and Indonesia.

Jeff Leong, Poon & Wong’s practices include capital markets, corporate and M&A, as well as banking and finance law. Azmi & Associates, meanwhile, focuses on a range of corporate commercial transactions. The team now jointly employs 85 lawyers with expertise in top tier transactional and dispute matters.

Both firms will collaborate on cross border transactions by leveraging their experience in the regional market. The alliance will see the two firms continue to advise Chinese investors on Malaysian corporate regulations, and work regularly with Dacheng Law Offices and the Zhong Yin Law Firm.

Indonesia and Japan related transactions will also be a growing focus for the two firms.

“The strategic alliance with Azmi & Associates is in line with our growth strategy, and is a great opportunity for us to work with a potential merger partner. Over the past week, we have already started working on a number of joint deals which augurs well for the future.  By leveraging on each other’s strengths through this innovative alliance, we are getting a good response from the market,” said senior partner Jeff Leong.

The two firms will remain independent entities but will advise certain clients jointly. ALB
