U.S. firm King & Spalding recently hired Mohammed Javid Shafi as counsel in its Middle East and Islamic Finance Practice Group at its Riyadh affiliate office. The law firm also recruited Simon Rahimzada as senior associate for its Abu Dhabi office. Both recruitments are part of the firm’s growth strategy in the region.

We were fortunate to attract a number of high quality lawyers to our team in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 2011,” said Jawad Ali, managing partner of King & Spalding in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. “We plan to continue this growth through 2012 to strengthen our on-the-ground capabilities in all practice areas in all of our offices in the region."

Shafi joins the firm from UK-based Kuit Steinart Levy, and brings experience in Islamic finance transactions along with broader expertise in corporate finance, real estate finance, and restructuring.

Rahimzada was an associate with Allen & Overy in Abu Dhabi, and is experienced in cross border acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate restructuring within the energy sector. ALB
