The Law Society of NSW will launch a Women's Mentoring Program following recommendations made during the 2011 Thought Leadership project: The Advancement of Women in the Legal Profession.
During the research phase of the project, mentoring and networking were highlighted in roundtable discussions as key factors in achieving success in the legal profession. Finding a mentor outside the established work environment can be important to allow objectivity of advice and confidentiality of discussions.

While mentoring relationships are often encouraged and established at early stages in a lawyer's career, support of this kind is limited during a woman's 30s, or equivalent - around 10-15 years post admission. This is a time when key decisions are being made about career progression and the balance with personal commitments. For this reason, the Women's Mentoring Program has been developed specifically for these women.

In the 2012/2013 program 25 successful applicants will each be matched with a more senior and experienced mentor. Mentors will be approached by the Law Society once the final 25 mentorees have been selected. If you would be interested in participating as a mentor, please email womensmentoring@lawsociety.com.au
