The ZICOlaw network has opened an office in Yangon, Myanmar, becoming one of the first law firms to do so.

The office will be headed by managing partner Win Naing, who has more than 17 years of experience in advising foreign investors in Myanmar, in various sectors such as corporate commercial, real estate, infrastructure, intellectual property, natural resources, litigation and dispute resolution. Additionally, Cheah Ching Gaik will join ZICOlaw Myanmar as resident partner early next month.

The Yangon office will be supported by a team of local Myanmar lawyers and lawyers seconded from the ZICOlaw network. In addition, the firm has established a Myanmar practice support group of lawyers who travel to Myanmar on a regular basis. This support group is led by Chew Seng Kok, regional managing partner, Loh Wei Lian, senior partner and head of ZICOlaw’s projects and public private partnership practice group and Stephen Maloy, senior adviser to ZICOlaw. Maloy was formerly the Asia-Pacific general counsel of General Electric and led that company’s entry into Myanmar.

“ZICOlaw Myanmar will advise on a wide range of areas such as foreign investments, corporate commercial, communications, media and technology, M&As, projects, infrastructure and utilities, oil and gas and real estate,” said Chew in an emailed statement. “We continue to serve our clients well through our enhanced connectivity and in-depth understanding of the ASEAN social, cultural and business practices.”
