Indian law firm Bose & Mitra & Co has helped Abu Dhabi-based Al Ghurair Iron & Steel (AGIS) win an arbitration award worth $4.36 million against Indian steel conglomerate JSW Steel Ltd, which was represented by K. Ashar & Co.

The arbitration was initiated by AGIS over a breach of contract by JSW-owned Ispat Industries Ltd. AGIS and Ispat Industries had signed a contract in 2008 to procure hot rolled coils. The quality of the coils became the matter of a dispute, which was referred to the Arbitral Tribunal in Mumbai, India in 2010.

The tribunal issued the award last month stating that the coils supplied had not met the specifications and the supply therefore breached the sales contract.
