Mary Padbury has been elected vice chair of Ashurst for a five-year term, with effect from 1 November 2013. This move follows the successful vote last month for full financial integration of the Ashurst partnerships.

Padbury [pictured below] said that she felt “privileged” to take on the role. "I am really excited to take on this role and to get an opportunity to work closely with [global chair] Ben Tidswell and [global managing partner] James Collis…to realise the benefits of the full merger of Ashurst Australia and Ashurst LLP," she said.

Padbury is the current chairman of Ashurst Australia and was first elected in 2005, having previously served on the board from 1996-2000.  She has also held a number of management positions including as the firm's resident London partner from 2001-2003 and as an executive partner with responsibility for the firm's national corporate, competition and intellectual property practices from 2003-2005.

Elections for the Ashurst board will take place shortly. The board will comprise 14 members including four elected legacy LLP partners; an elected Asia partner; three elected legacy Australian partners and a non-voting CFO.
