Squire Sanders and Indonesian law firm Melli Darsa & Co (MDC) have entered into a formal strategic alliance, making the American firm the latest international outfit to enter Indonesia with a local tie-up.

The alliance, operating under the name Melli Darsa & Co in strategic alliance with Squire Sanders, will see the two firms share a joint platform for business development and the marketing of legal services in Indonesia and internationally.

MDC has expertise in M&A, corporate finance and banking, project finance, capital markets and securities, anti-competition, litigation and commercial law. Established in 2002, the firm has 33 qualified lawyers.

"This alliance is a logical next step for the firm as we seek to support our clients who do business in Indonesia and across the Asia-Pacific region,” said James J. Maiwurm, CEO and chair of Squire Sanders, in a statement. “We are seeing increasing investment in Indonesia from countries such as China, Japan and Korea, and with our presence in all of those locations and our desire to offer extensive, integrated regional coverage, it was clear that Indonesia was a missing link.”

Last month, Taylor Wessing entered into an alliance with Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners, while in September, Clyde & Co announced a tie-up with Lubis Ganie Surowidjojo.
