DFDL has relocated partner Marcus Collins from Thailand to Singapore and named him the head of its Indonesia practice, while appointing Shahwar Nizam as head of its Bangladesh office in Dhaka.

Collins, who will continue to lead DFDL’s real estate and litigation practices there in his new role, has lived in Asia for two decades, including an early stint in Indonesia. In 1996, he co-founded the Yangon office of Russin & Vecchi, the predecessor to DFDL’s office in the city, and worked between 2000 and 2004 with Allen & Overy, where he became a partner. He formed his own firm McEvily & Collins after that and merged it into DFDL in 2010.

Nizam, who worked as an advocate in Bangladesh, joined DFDL from Duane Morris & Selvam in Singapore in 2011.

“The appointments really strengthen DFDL’s management in these strategically important markets,” said L-Martin Desautels, DFDL’s managing partner, in a statement. “They enhance our presence in Singapore – the gateway of ASEAN investment – but moreover, they provide leadership and strategic focus in two of the region’s most exciting markets. We congratulate both Marcus and Shahwar on their new roles.”

In Indonesia, DFDL has an alliance with Mataram & Partners.
